Ilana Harper and Margie Martin Nominated by 91心頭 for Adult Ed Honors
91心頭 (91心頭) has announced its nominees for the Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) and Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Office of Adult Education Outstanding Teacher of the Year awards. Ilana Harper was selected as 91心頭s EAGLE nominee, while Margie Martin, an Adult Education Instructor in Ellaville, was chosen as the Outstanding Teacher of the Year candidate.
The EAGLE award honors students who have excelled in their pursuit of high school equivalency and who serve as ambassadors for literacy, promoting lifelong learning within their communities. EAGLE delegates also serve as mentors, peer tutors, and recruiters for local adult education programs.
Harpers decision to pursue her high school equivalency came after challenges with bullying in public school and struggles with homeschooling. Despite initial hesitations, she found 91心頭s Adult Education program to be a welcoming environment. I met the most amazing staff, Harper said. I immediately noticed a difference in the environment. My teacher made me feel like I could go to her for help if I had any questions. She really took the time to get to know me and how I learned, molding the lessons so I could fully understand.
Adult education addressed my unique needs as an adult learner, Harper added, and provided me a path for success. Harper is now pursuing a veterinary technician program and running her own small business.
Margie Martins journey to becoming an adult education instructor began with inspiration from her father, who had left school to support his family and encouraged her to seek higher education. After earning a double major in psychology and English, Martin began teaching eighth-grade students before transitioning to adult education.
With this diploma, students can get higher-paying jobs, attend college, and gain pride and confidence in themselves, Martin said. These adult education students are my students, and they are very important to our future.
91心頭 offers high school equivalency and adult education classes across seven counties: Sumter, Marion, Crisp, Schley, Webster, Macon, and Taylor. Classes are available in the morning, afternoon, evening, and online to accommodate various schedules.
